Empower - Calgary

Lifemark has designed an innovative and holistic program, Empower - Calgary, aimed at improving the lives of single mothers in Calgary through connection to employment and education opportunities.

We are able to offer this program to eligible single mothers at no cost. Lifemark will work with you to make a customized service plan to help you meet your goals.

Are you eligible?

You may be eligible for enrollment if you:

• Identify as a single mother
• Are a resident of the Calgary Metropolitan Area
• Are 18 years of age or older
• Are unemployed or marginally employed
• Are not currently attending an education program under the School Act (K-12)
• Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Are able to work and train in Canada

Program education and skills training details

Programming is customizable, with participants being able to access up to 20 weeks of services, available in-person and virtually. Services include:

• A week-long orientation to trial the program
• Career and Employment workshops (on topics related to work and life skills, career and labour market information, resume and cover letter, computer skills, and more)
• Education Preparation workshops and assistance with identifying and applying for educational programs
• Access to short courses needed for employment (eg. First Aid, software training, safety certifications, etc.)
• Connection to volunteer opportunities, work experience, and job placement
• Access to innovative services such as Lifemark’s Clothing Closet, Community Pantry, Resource Centre, Virtual Career Centre, and more
